The youth summer reading program is back at the Indianapolis Public Library.

Wayne Branch Librarian Rachel Priesman-Marquez said this year marks the 103rd year for the program.

“Our theme this year is Camp Read S’more. We are going to be doing lots of activities based on the outdoors and all that good kind of stuff. Our goal this year is to get each reader to read 20 hours,” Priesman-Marquez said.

Students can accumulate hours and earn prizes by reading aloud to someone, alone, listening to audiobooks or having someone read to them.

The library’s community goal is to get to 16 million minutes of reading. If that goal is reached, Indy PL will donate $5,000 to the Indianapolis Colts program “Books for Youth,” which gives backpacks to children in foster care.

Registration opens May 16 at any Indy PL branch.  Parents can also sign up for the program online.  The last day to log reading time is July 30.

Progress can be tracked using the Beanstack app or on paper.  Prizes can be picked up at any branch location.
