Thousands Of Firefighters In Downtown Indy For International Convention

Thousands of firefighters from across the country are in downtown Indianapolis this week for the annual Fire Department Instructor’s Conference.

With 27 hands on training Classes, 91 workshops, over 200 classrooms, over 850 Exhibitors and over 30,000 firefighters from 53 countries, FDIC International features the latest techniques in firefighter safety and the newest in fire ground tools and apparatus.

Education Director Bobby Halton says it will showcase the latest in new technology.

“One of the incredible advances is due to what’s called augmented reality and virtual reality," Halton says. "They are kind of blending those into thermal imaging and a thermal imaging camera reads heat and that's pretty important if you are a firefighter.”

The FDIC begins Monday, April 8 and wraps up Saturday, April 13.
