The sheriff’s deputy who died after he was attacked by a detainee at the Indianapolis Adult Detention Center Monday was strangled with handcuffs, according to court documents.

Indianapolis police said a suspect detained at the Indianapolis Adult Detention Center assaulted a sheriff’s deputy and stole a van, crashing it outside the Community Justice Campus.

Requests are out for redevelopment ideas in the Twin Aire neighborhood. The city of Indianapolis has two properties it wants to find development solutions for.

Towns and cities in Marion County were excluded from procedures to transport people to the new Community Justice Campus.

The Assessment and Intervention Center, part of Marion County's new Community Justice Campus, opened one year ago. The AIC is a clinic for people with mental health or substance abuse problems, including those who may have encountered law enforcement. It was created to divert more people with those health problems away from the criminal justice system.

The county’s justice system starts its move in the next month from downtown to a neighborhood southeast of Indianapolis. The campus was originally set to open in December, but due to pandemic-related supply chain issues, it will begin to open early next year.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office wants to hire about 80 more people before a new jail opens at the Community Justice Campus at the end of the year.

The new Assessment and Intervention Center, AIC, on the Community Justice Campus received a Silver LEED designation.

Indianapolis City-County Councillors put money behind two issues of high interest to the public.

Southeast Neighborhood Development, Inc. (SEND) and Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett announced Tuesday that the Twin Aire community was awarded a $45,000 Technical Assistance Grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration. SEND plans to match the grant and invest $90,000 in a feasibility study of a business incubator for job creation and training.
