Its been about seven years since the Environmental Protection Agency found a chemical used to sterilize medical equipment and spices was a lot more harmful than the agency originally thought. But the agency still hasnt finalized a rule limiting the chemical at commercial sterilizers like Cook Group Inc. in Ellettsville.

Cook Medical announced it is cutting about 120 jobs in Indiana. More than twice as many jobs were lost in the closure of a South Bend Walmart last month. And there have been hundreds of other layoffs across the state since 2023 began.

Cook Medical says it will cut 500 jobs worldwide under a plan to refocus efforts on product innovation.
