The Indiana State Department of Health says people who ate prepared food from the Casey's General Store in Centerville earlier this month may have been exposed to Hepatitis A.

Hepatitis A is a highly-contagious liver disease that can be spread through fecal-oral means.

More Hoosiers are looking to get vaccinated as the number of hepatitis A cases associated with an outbreak in Indiana surpasses 200. Demand is especially high in counties seeing an abnormal increase in cases.

Indiana has had 148 cases since November, according to the most recent data from the Indiana State Department of Health.

Indiana usually sees an average of 20 cases a year, but the state says nearly 150 people have been diagnosed with a form of the virus linked to a multi-state outbreak since November.

Officials in Floyd and Clark counties are working to vaccinate more people, with a focus on high-risk populations such as homeless people and jail inmates.

Indiana health officials are advising residents to get vaccinated for hepatitis A if their summer plans include visits to Kentucky or Michigan.

The Indiana State Department of Health said Monday that 17 cases of hepatitis A have been confirmed statewide in the past month, including 11 in Clark and Floyd counties.

The State Department of Health says reported acute hepatitis C cases have risen by 400 percent since 2010.

So far, eight restaurants in Marion, Hamilton, and Hendricks counties have received the recalled strawberries and served them within the last two weeks.
