Indiana's Republican attorney general on Wednesday asked the state medical licensing to discipline a Indianapolis doctor who has spoken publicly about providing an abortion to a 10-year-old rape victim who traveled from Ohio after its more-restrictive abortion law took effect.

More than 80 percent of Hoosiers believe an abortion ban should have at least some exceptions. And more than half say abortion should be legal in most cases.

Even before Republican legislators this summer made Indiana the first state to pass an abortion ban since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Democrats started urging angry voters to take their revenge at the ballot box.

The state is in court this week, defending its near-total abortion ban over a lawsuit that seeks to strike down the ban because it infringes on some Hoosiers religious freedom.

Abortion will remain legal in Indiana through at least the end of the year.

Attorneys for Indiana abortion rights supporters argued Monday there is no rush to suspend a judge's decision temporarily letting abortions continue in the state. It's the latest legal step in the fight over the state's recent abortion ban.

After a judge temporarily blocked Indiana’s near-total abortion ban last week, some clinics that provide abortions have resumed services.

The lawsuit was filed last week against Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb and Attorney General Todd Rokita, on behalf of multiple anonymous "involuntarily pregnant women."

The appeal filed Thursday night with the Indiana Court of Appeals said the court "should stay the trial court's preliminary injunction pending appeal, and at the very least, should issue a temporary stay while this motion is briefed."

After an Indiana judge on Thursday blocked the state's abortion ban from being enforced, phones starting ringing across Indiana abortion clinics, which are preparing to resume the procedure a week after the ban had gone into effect.
