The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus will launch its annual town hall series Saturday, visiting six cities over the next few months.

The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus said housing should be more accessible, affordable and equitable for all Hoosiers. And that's the focus of the caucus's agenda in 2024.

The award is given to legislators across the country for demonstrating extraordinary leadership, along with a commitment to the advancement of NBCSL’s legislative agenda.

During the pandemic, the Black Legislative Caucus town halls went virtual. Caucus Chair Robin Shackleford (D-Indianapolis) said getting back to in-person events is vital but said virtual town halls also have an appeal.

Legislation the caucus will push includes scholarships for students of color pursuing health care careers, measures to help reduce the cost of child care and a pilot program aimed at helping parents attain an education.

The head of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus said she's pleased with the Holcomb administration's response to a recently-released report on Indiana law enforcement policies and training.
