Traffic fatalities in Indiana are up 17 percent over the last four years. And while state lawmakers are digging into the data on traffic safety, a study committee adopted its yearly report Wednesday without any recommendations.

The Indianapolis City-County Council introduced proposals Monday evening to create “no turn on red” intersections in the downtown area.

Officials with the Indiana Department of Transportation say the years-long push to connect Indiana north to south via Interstate 69 is on schedule to open to traffic in 2024.

Workers with the Indiana Department of Transportation started work Monday on the project that will essentially eliminate movement across all four lanes of U.S. 41 in Knox County near Oaktown.

The first closure will be of I-65 northbound between its interchanges with Interstate 465 and Interstate 865 starting 9 p.m. June 14 until July 1. Closure of the southbound lanes is scheduled from July 12 until July 29.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says all lanes of northbound Interstate 465 are closed until further notice at Interstate 70 Exit 9.

Legislation headed for the House floor would allow police to ticket people who don't move their vehicles out of the road after an accident. The proposed bill essentially replaces a law that was recently dropped from state statute.

The Indiana state departments of Agriculture, Homeland Security and Transportation and the Indiana State Police remind motorists that some farm equipment is so wide that it takes up most of a roadway.
