Marion County Republicans are alleging that former U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett violated federal campaign rules against political activity while serving in office.
GOP Chairman Kyle Walker said Wednesday that there was a “mountain of evidence” that Hogsett discussed a run for mayor while still working as a federal prosecutor.
The Hatch Act restricts federal employees from engaging in campaign activities, and it would bar Hogsett from discussing his political plans prior to leaving office on July 31. He has since joined Bose, McKinney and Evans, an Indianapolis law firm. He is planning to form an exploratory committee for a mayoral run in 2015.
