MUNSTER, Ind. (AP) — The Indiana Red Cross says an agreement with Indiana University health has given it 2,000 nurse volunteers.
Indiana Region CEO Chad Priest tells The (Munster) Timeseach of the nurses has made a two-year commitment.
Priest says the Red Cross responds to about five home fires every day in Indiana that often leave people without their medications or necessary medical equipment. He says the nurse volunteers can work with pharmacies and physicians to replace the losses.
Other volunteer duties include responding to disasters, installing smoke alarms and teaching children about emergency preparedness.
