Gov. Eric Holcomb announced Friday he’s extending a moratorium on enforcement of Indiana’s law banning sales of cannabidiol, or CBD.
Holcomb says he wants to give lawmakers more time to develop legislation that’s expected to change that law.
The governor first imposed the moratorium late last year after confusion developed surrounding state statute. 2017 legislation legalized CBD for epilepsy patients. But an Attorney General opinion said it was illegal for anyone other than those patients to use CBD and that state law barred anyone from selling it.
Bills moving in both chambers this session would legalize CBD entirely, as long it contains 0.3 percent or less THC, a psychoactive ingredient.
Holcomb says he’s directed the state excise police not to issue citations or remove products from retailers until the end of the legislative session.
