Legislative leaders say no decisions have been made on whether lawmakers will advance gun regulation measures before session ends.
There are two bills that passed at least one chamber this year. One would eliminate the fee imposed on the state’s lifetime handgun permits. The other would allow licensed gun owners to carry their firearms into churches that are on school property, says Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne).
“With the knowledge that churches can still ban guns,” Long says. “They still have the power to do that.”
House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) says the debate among legislators before the session’s end is limited to those two proposals.
“I’m uncertain if there’ll be agreement reached on those at this point but the discussions will happen,” Bosma says.
The 2018 session is set to end Wednesday.
