End family separation: that was the message of hundreds gathered in Indianapolis Saturday.
The event was one of dozens across the country this weekend to protest the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
Hundreds stood outside the Statehouse and held signs. Messages included “Closed minds cause closed borders” and “Cribs not cages.” But Indiana Undocumented Youth Alliance co-founder Guadalupe Pimental-Solano says rallies aren’t enough.
“A Facebook picture of your sign is not going to change anything. And it is very cute, but we need people to come out and do the work,” Pimental-Solano says.
Speakers, including Episcopal Bishop Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows, had a message for Sens. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) and Todd Young (R-Ind.).
“Will you stand in the breach with us to say yes to keeping families together and no to the corporate greed that fuels the deportation machine? We are watching,” Baskerville-Burrows says.
Donnelly and Young each say they’ll support efforts to end family separation.
