The Indiana Republican Party set a date Tuesday to replace outgoing Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne).
Long announced in February he would retire after 22 years in the state Senate – including 12 as its leader.
Long’s retirement takes effect Nov. 6. Republican precinct committeepeople will choose the replacement for his Fort Wayne district seat a little earlier – Oct. 9.
That person will serve out the rest of Long’s term, which ends in 2020.
The Senate will choose Long’s replacement as Senate President Pro Tem later this year. The Republican caucus took an unofficial vote in May and chose Sen. Rod Bray (R-Martinsville).
