School safety in Indiana has become a top priority for lawmakers after a shooting at Noblesville West Middle School in May –– now the Department of Justice will provide funding to the Indiana State Department of Health to reduce school violence.
The DOJ announced this afternoon a $1 million grant to combat school violence.
The DOJ named three main goals: to support mental health training for teachers and administrators, to create anonymous reporting systems, and to develop crisis intervention teams in schools.
It says these will give students and teacher the tools to prevent and respond to violent attacks.
In September, the Indiana Department of Education also announced a $9 million grant to address mental health in Indiana schools.
