The Indianapolis City-County Council Monday night voted to approve free bus service for Indianapolis residents on Election Day.
The offer comes through bus service provider IndyGo.
Council Vice President Zach Adamson authored the resolution, which got bipartisan support. He says this is the first time such an offer has been made in the city.
"I think Indiana, or Indianapolis in particular, is already headed for breaking records for midterm elections, and we really just want this to add to that number," Adamson says.
An IndyGo representative says the deal will cost the company about $35,000.
Two of the three councilors who voted against the resolution – Brian Mowery of District 25 and Jason Holliday of District 20 – said they can’t support the idea since the bus service does not serve their district.
