The Indiana House honored retiring Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) Monday as he officially stepped down from his position leading the chamber.
Bosma is wrapping up a 34-year legislative career.
Nearly a third of the 100 members of the House spoke for Bosma’s honoring resolution. They praised the Republican’s leadership during his 12-year tenure as speaker – including, as with Rep. Cherrish Pryor (D-Indianapolis), the many things Bosma did behind-the-scenes that few ever knew about.
“But they are very impactful to the citizens of this state as well as people within this body," Pryor says. "So, thank you very much. I’ll miss you.”
Bosma reflected on his years in office, gave advice to his colleagues and praised the institution.
“It is literally the crucible of democracy in this state and you must work hard to protect it,” Bosma says.
Bosma is the longest-serving speaker in state history.
