More than $35 million in funding for Indianapolis infrastructure projects announced

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization distributes annual federal transportation funds for projects including bridges, roundabouts and trails.

Purdue University's Local Technical Assistance Program estimates that local roads and bridges will need between $1.8 and $3.2 billion per year in funding over the next decade.

It will likely cost Indiana’s local governments nearly $2 billion a year over the next decade just to maintain roads and bridges in the condition they’re in now.

The Department of Public Works said it has invested more than $170 million dollars in bridge work over the past five years, including what’s planned for this year.
