The Indiana Youth Institute said there’s some good and some bad in this year’s Kids Count Data Book. Among the positives: Indiana’s median household income grew and child poverty is at its lowest in a decade.

The 2024 Kids Count report said pandemic learning loss and adverse childhood experiences prevent kids from reaching their full potential at school.

The poverty rate in the U.S. has risen dramatically in the year since pandemic benefits ran out — and the child poverty rate has more than doubled, according to U.S. Census Bureau's annual data on poverty, income and health insurance released Tuesday.
