Crews are searching Lake Michigan for two suburban Chicago men who went missing while a large group of people were boating along northwestern Indiana’s coastline.

A Lake County school district that lost a vote last week to continue a property tax levy said it could be in danger of a state takeover.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration announced a $21 million grant Monday to help Indiana make railroad crossings safer.

A northwestern Indiana hospital said it will close its emergency room Saturday, a day after an Indiana Court of Appeals judge issued a stay of a lower court ruling that it must operate those services for nine more months.

The emergency room at Franciscan Health in Hammond will stop taking ambulances at 6 a.m. on Dec. 23, according to a hospital spokesperson. Then on Dec. 31 all emergency room services will come to an end.

Last year, the Hoosier chapter of the Sierra Club won a lawsuit against the company for emitting too much particle pollution at its Whiting Refinery between 2015 and 2018. Exposure to particle pollution can cause heart attacks, aggravate asthma, and cause other heart and lung problems.

Indiana will host a Ukrainian Olympic team this summer so it can train amid the ongoing Russian assault on its homeland.

The school last week announced the lab will be a place for entrepreneurship, innovation and education collaboration.
