Hoosier Energy

Hallador Energy is acquiring a 1-gigawatt power plant in southwestern Indiana that's currently owned by Hoosier Energy and is approaching retirement.

Bloomington-based Hoosier Energy said it will idle the coal-fired Merom Generating Station in Sullivan County as part of a transition to other energy sources including wind, solar, natural gas and storage.

That farm covers 10 acres with more than 4,200 solar photovoltaic panels that turn sunlight into electricity and feed that power into the local electrical grid.
