Six Indiana counties operate a syringe service program, often acting as a bridge to healthcare, overdose prevention education and addiction treatment. But the programs could end in July, when the law allowing them expires.

A new statewide campaign to address stigma associated with mental illness and substance use disorders launched Monday. The "Stigma Never Helps" campaign is designed to break down barriers to treatment.

Monroe County was approved for a needle exchange in December when the state health commissioner declared a public health emergency. That allowed the creation of a needle-exchange program to curb the spread of hepatitis C tied to intravenous drug use.
