Rokita, Morales sue Trump administration over citizenship verification of Indiana voters

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita and Secretary of State Diego Morales are suing the Trump administration over citizenship information. The lawsuit stems from a request last fall that the federal government verify the citizenship of more than half a million voters.

County election boards must hold hearings for each provisional ballot cast. Those hearings must take place within 10 days of Election Day.

Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales said questioning the citizenship of half a million registered voters is not about trying to remove people from the voter rolls. Rather, it’s setting the stage for local officials to challenge voters at the polls this fall.

The National Voter Registration Act forbids states from removing people from the voter rolls within 90 days of an election.
