Interstate 65

The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to reopen Interstate 70 westbound through the North Split interchange this weekend.

Starting Sept. 12, 10th Street will be closed between College and Highland avenues. The closure is expected to last into late September. Eastbound and westbound traffic will be detoured to 16th Street during the closure.

The Indiana Department of Transportation said 10th Street will close on Monday, July 18, between Bellefontaine Street on the west and Dorman Street/Massachusetts Avenue on the east. It's expected to reopen in September.

The three left lanes of the Interstate 65 Kennedy Bridge were closed Monday for an inspection and crews determined an expansion joint needed to be repaired.

The closure that started Saturday allows traffic on Interstates 70 and 65 to reach the city's downtown, but through traffic is blocked as crews rebuild a portion of the route the two highways share.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says the I-65/I-70 southbound lanes between the North Split and Washington Street will close Friday, May 14. The full closure of the interchange is expected Saturday, May 15.

The incident happened around 8 a.m. Sunday on the ramp leading from Interstate 70 eastbound to Interstate 65 northbound, according to authorities.

A new Indy Chamber study funded by the Lilly Endowment will examine options to rework the interchange of interstates 65 and 70, a key piece of Indianapolis' downtown interstate system.

The Kentucky Transportation Department says in a statement that lane closures on the Interstate 65 Kennedy Bridge will begin this week. The statement says the right three lanes of I-65 South will close at midnight on Nov. 8 and reopen at 5 a.m. on Nov. 27.

The long-planned project is designed to improve the I-65 / I-70 interchange near downtown Indianapolis. INDOT says the interchange, which is the second-most heavily traveled in the state, has been deteriorating for years.
