Two families are suing Perry Township Schools for unspecified damages over the alleged bullying of two students with disabilities that left them with traumatic head injuries, arguing in court filings that the district has shown continued apathy toward habitual violence in school.

The project is possible because of a new state statute that approves property tax exemptions for affordable housing with a PILOT, or payment in lieu of taxes.

Voters in Marion County rejected one school district referendum while another was easily approved, according to unofficial results Tuesday night.

Perry Township Schools is asking voters to approve an ongoing property tax referendum in the May primary. The referendum would extend the tax increase for home and business owners that was first approved in 2015.

Construction will begin soon on the final section of the Interstate 69 project that began more than 10 years ago to connect Evansville to Indianapolis.

The grant will be divided between three school corporations: Goshen Community, Perry Township, and Brown County schools.

The state estimates it may need to buy up to 279 homes and 96 businesses to complete the Intestate 69 extension.
