The Vigo County prosecutor announced Tuesday that a Terre Haute police officer acted appropriately after responding to a domestic violence call on Dec. 1 and heard a woman screaming inside the house.

A federal grand jury indicted an Indiana man Wednesday in the fatal shooting of a Terre Haute police detective and FBI task force officer.

Detective Greg Ferency worked on investigations ranging from drugs to counterterrorism during his 11 years on an FBI task force, FBI Director Christopher Wray told hundreds of police officers and other mourners at Indiana State University's Hulman Center basketball arena.

Investigators haven't yet determined a motive for the ambush shooting of a police officer outside an FBI office in western Indiana, an FBI official said Thursday.

The criminal complaint released Thursday gives no possible motive for the Wednesday afternoon attack outside the FBI office in Terre Haute that killed Terre Haute police Detective Greg Ferency.

The shooting incident is under investigation by the FBI's Inspection Division, according to authorities.

The suspect was identified after authorities posted information on social media with surveillance photos. In one of the photos, a man can be seen holding what appears to be a red gasoline container.

The prosecutor says the officers were acting in self-defense when they opened fire during the May 4 shootout.

Hundreds of officers from around the country joined other mourners at the funeral for Terre Haute Officer Robert Pitts.

Holcomb also asked Monday that residents and businesses in Vigo and Sullivan counties fly their flags at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday to honor Patrolman Robert Shawn "Rob" Pitts.
