A local auto workers union and Allison Transmission in Indianapolis have reached a tentative agreement following calls by the union for a potential strike.

Stellantis is set to temporarily lay off about 300 workers at two parts manufacturing plants in Kokomo. In the face of that, a large group of United Auto Workers members and supporters gathered Sunday to practice picketing in front of one of Stellantis plants.

The president of the United Auto Workers said Friday the union will expand its strike against major automakers by walking out of 38 General Motors and Stellantis facilities in 20 states.

All Indiana plants, like General Motors Fort Wayne Assembly and Kokomos Stellantis Transmission Plant, are still operating. But work stoppages in other states can affect the plants that arent on strike too.

General Motors workers in Fort Wayne and more than 100,000 union auto workers nationwide voted to authorize a strike last week. To prevent a strike from actually happening, the big three major automakers and the United Auto Workers must reach tentative contract agreements by September 14. Local UAW leaders say they've gone on strike before and are ready to do it again.
