The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released data that shows a recent spike in outbreaks of norovirus — a highly contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea. One expert said that spike is pretty typical for this time of year, but people can still take precautions to avoid getting sick.

Testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration from April found that 20% of retail milk samples showed fragments of the H5N1 virus. But public health experts worry states just aren't doing enough surveillance to capture the real number of infections.

Some states’ wait-and-see approach worry public health expert as bird flu inches closer to humans.

The IDOH said the disease is rare because of the availability of the measles, mumps and rubella, or MMR, vaccine. Vaccination rates peaked in 2020, but have steadily declined since.
