Architects from around the country are in Indianapolis for a national conference and helping local students learn about ways to strengthen communities.
On Wednesday, members of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) worked with kids from Fall Creek Academy envisioning ways to connect one neighborhood to Fall Creek.
Sanford Garner, NOMA conference chairman, helped develop the workshops at the Children’s Museum though his work with Reconnecting Our Waterways.
"We do have these tremendous jewels that we need to become better stewards of," Garner says.
Participants focused on what could be built to enliven the area like a bridge crossing the creek. Garner says the opportunity also allows mentors the chance to expose young people to architecture as a career.
