Kids in Marion County will be receiving the cash they need to develop community projects. This week 20 youth groups will get a part of over $28,000 as part of the Youth as Resources (YAR)project.
The program from the United Way of Central Indiana, challenges kids to identify local needs, then use their skills and creativity to tackle the projects.
YAR Program Manager, Annie Smith, says the program offers kids a chance to make a real difference in their neighborhoods.
"They take ownership when they are the ones that are planning the project," says Smith, "a lot of times they are passionate because they are doing things they really care about."
The grants will fund projects that combat bullying, feed the hungry, build homes, perform educational shows and much more. The funds will be presented to the kids at a kick-off event Thursday evening at the Indiana Landmarks building.
