The first round of projects celebrating Indiana’s Bicentennial has been given the thumbs up. A number of the over 30 projects planned for Indiana’s 200th birthday were already underway when they were submitted to the Indiana Bicentennial Commission for consideration.
The first group of Legacy Projects includes a trail honoring Abraham Lincoln, a poetry book engaging all Hoosier counties and a renovated train exhibit.
Chris Jensen, executive director of the Indiana Bicentennial Commission, says projects must meet certain qualifications.
"They must be fundable projects without commission support," explains Jensen, "they must create a legacy for the future, they must be culturally inclusive, they must also engage and inspire youth and young adults."
The goal is that there will be hundreds of such projects to help celebrate the Hoosier state in 2016.
