IMPD Officers Shot While Serving Warrant

Four Indianapolis Metropolitan Police SWAT officers are expected to recover after being shot while serving a search warrant last night.  It happened about 7:45 p.m. at a house in the 1600 block of State Avenue, a house under watch by police for drug activity and sales.  Two of the four wounded officers remained at Eskanazi Hospital this morning.

Investigators say Andrew Sizemore, 27, was shot and killed by police after he started firing at the officers serving the warrant. Four other people were inside the house at the time and were uninjured.

Police say officers knew they were going into a high-risk operation and lives were saved by bullet-proof vests.  An undetermined amount of drugs and other criminal evidence were found inside the house.  IMPD’s Critical Response Team is investigating.
