Construction Worker's Death In Tunnel Ruled An Accident

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The death of a construction worker on a project to build a sewer tunnel 250 feet beneath Indianapolis has been ruled an accident.

Marion County Chief Deputy Coroner Alfarena Ballew tells The Indianapolis Star 25-year-old William "Isaac" Simpson died of a "massive crushing blunt force traumatic injury of the head" on Friday.

Officials say Simpson was at the far end of a massive underground sewer project when the accident occurred between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. Exactly what happened and how he sustained the fatal injury remains undetermined.

A representative for the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration said the investigation might not be it complete for two or three months.
