INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — State police and other Indiana law enforcement agencies are increasing road patrols for about two weeks as people get ready to travel for Thanksgiving.
Police say patrols aimed at cracking down on impaired driving and seat-belt violations start Friday and will continue through Nov. 30.
Fort Wayne District Commander Lt. Tony Casto says Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel periods so officers will be working overtime. He says people who suspect someone is driving impaired should call 911. He says that will help police take action to prevent a possible tragedy.
During November 2013, there were 490 alcohol-related crashes across Indiana resulting in 224 injuries and 13 fatalities. A total of 735 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence and 9,500 seat belt citations were issued.
