INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Firefighters in Indianapolis have responded to reports of an underground explosion at a busy downtown intersection.

Authorities ordered journalists to back away from the scene as blasts sent several manhole covers into the air.

Fire crews blocked the intersection of North Street and Capital Avenue, and power was shut down to the area.

The incident follows a similar underground explosion on Monday night on Massachusetts Avenue in the city's downtown business district.

That blast was traced to an underground electrical vault.
