INDIANAPOLIS -- There’s another jury duty scam targeting Indianapolis residents.
The Marion County prosecutor is reminding people that jury duty summons only come in the mail and not over the phone. People who receive such a phone call should never give out personal or financial information, as scammers often request, said officials.
Complaints about the fake calls say scammer must make payments through pre-paid cards to avoid being arrested.
“This jury duty scam is awfully offensive. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office will never telephone citizens and ask them to pay a fine over the phone for failed jury service,” Marion County Sheriff John Layton said in a statement.
Individuals who believe they have received a fraudulent phone call regarding jury duty can contact the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office at (317) 327-5600.
