Illinois Street may be closed between McCarty and South streets through July 2020. The closure will start Monday, Dec. 9, as construction continues forCitizens Energy Group’s Dig Indy Tunnel System project.
Communications coordinator Laura O’Brien says the closure is necessary for construction to be completed on the Lower Pogues Run Tunnel portion of the project.
"We have to close the road not only to access these points, but also to ensure the safety of the workers," O'Brien says.
Detour signs will be posted for through traffic.
The Dig Indy system includes a 28 mile long network of underground tunnels to eliminate sewer overflows into waterways.
