Many initiatives to help people experiencing homelessness in Indianapolis will receive more than $6.3 million in federal funding.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, HUD, Continuum of Care program aims to end homelessness in communities across the country.
New funding for 20 projects in Indianapolis represents a 13 percent increase in federal money for this effort from last year. Organizations including the Julian Center, CHIP and the Damien Center will benefit from the grant.
In an email statement, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett says one program will recieve targeted funding.
“One of the most exciting components of this year’s announcement is that the city received bonus funding for a project that will focus on one of our most vulnerable populations, victims of domestic violence,” Hogsett says.
Indianapolis expects to be awarded another $700,000 dollars in HUD funding later this year.
