Safe Summer Serves Fewer This Year

Indianapolis Safe Summer Program recently wrapped up. The program seeks to keep young people away from criminal activity and violence.

The Indianapolis Office of Public Health and Safety says they were able to reach 462 youths.  Due to the pandemic, the number is down from last year, when 685 teens were provided with activities and resources.

“It is vital that we encourage our young people to find positive opportunities on a path free from crime and violence,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett in a written statement.

This summer, the program operated at three sites, where community groups engaged youths in sports, mentoring and peace walks.
