The Indianapolis City-County Council held a full meeting Monday night.
At the top of the meeting, councillors approved a special resolution to condemn violence against Asian Americans. Indiana chapter organizer for the National Asian-Pacific American Women Forum, Katherin Chi spoke in favor of the special resolution to condemn violence.
“Like all American’s Asian Americans deserve to live in a safe, inclusive and just community,” Chi said.
The council approved a proposal allocating more than $2.6 million to the Office of Public Health and Safety Budget was held. A majority of the money will go towards the city’s non-congregate hotel housing for people experiencing homelessness.
OPHS Deputy Counsel Matt Giffin said the Funds to be reimbursed by federal emergency dollars.
“We’re able to extend this program for an additional three months without any net cost to the city,” Giffin said.
Part of the funds will also go towards the city’s new community mediation center, which aims to reduce violence by resolving conflicts.
A newly introduced proposal adds additional dollars for the completion of the Community Justice Campus.
