The city of Indianapolis and Indy Parks kicked off the summer meal program Thursday. The effort reaches thousands of families across Marion County.
The meal program called Summer Servings offers free, nutritious meals to children 18 and younger during the summer months. In years past the program has provided breakfast and lunch to children only, averaging about 350,000 meals each summer.

Last year during the pandemic, the program expanded to provide family meal boxes to nearly 380 thousand households. Indy Parks will continue to feed families through the summer program. Meals will be served at 13 different parks and reach 69 sites through mobile units.
The program is offered during the summer months, a time when children may go without meals because they are not in school. There are no requirements to receive the food.
