A neighborhood cleanup program restarts this week after being shut down during the pandemic.
The effort targets neighborhoods that struggle with litter and illegal dumping.
“We are helping them cleanup the blight, pick up the trash, to make it a better place not only to look at but also a healthier place to live,” said Brandi Pahl, spokesperson for Indianapolis’s Department of Business and Neighborhood Services, which organizes the cleanup events.
The next event will be held Thursday, June 30 in the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood and will bring together volunteers as well as staff from Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, a local non-profit.
“We like to partner with neighborhood groups and gather as much support to help us support the neighborhoods and improve the quality of life,” Pahl said.
Many cleanup events were canceled this past year because of COVID-19 restrictions. People at this year’s events will be asked to wear masks and socially distance.
