The Indiana Department of Insurance is warning Hoosiers that many insurance policies won’t cover fireworks damage unless they’re used legally.
Fireworks are governed by both state and local laws in Indiana. For instance, state statute says you can only set off fireworks at certain times of day – generally between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. on non-holidays, though local ordinances can sometimes restrict it further.

And fireworks can only be set off on your private property, the private property of someone who gives the OK, or a special location designated for fireworks.
Violating any of those laws could mean your insurance won’t cover damages from fireworks.
