An annual grant program is open again for community-based, grassroots groups for violence prevention efforts with more money available this year.
Nearly $3 million will be awarded for this year’s Violent Crime Prevention GrantProgram. That’s an added $750,000 more than last year, with a targeted focus on domestic violence, youth mental health and early intervention for juveniles.
The Central Indiana Community Foundation facilitates the public funding for local groups aligned with efforts to prevent and reduce violent crime in Indianapolis. The annual program was established in 2013, after the city commissioned a task force to study how to best address the root causes of violence.
In past years, grants have been given to a variety of organizations that provide employment programs for people after prison and funding to reach at-risk youth. Applications will be accepted through Nov. 5.
