13-year-old boy shot and killed on Indianapolis’ northeast side Wednesday

A 13-year-old boy was shot and killed on Indianapolis’ northeast side Wednesday night.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the 3500 block of Blue Spruce Lane on a report of a person shot at about 8 p.m. Police said they found a juvenile male outside with a gunshot wound.

The boy was transported to a hospital in critical condition, and was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the boy as Dayon Darnell Lyles.

Lyles’ death comes after several recent incidents in which young people have been shot and killed across Indianapolis.

Police encourage anyone with information about the shooting to contact Detective Matthew Melkey at 317-327-3475 or at Matthew.Melkey@indy.gov. Members of the public can also call the Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477 to remain anonymous.
