Police were involved in a shooting on the west side of Indianapolis Tuesday morning.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of a person shot before noon near Vermont Street and Lynhurst Drive.

IMPD said when they arrived on the scene they encountered a person with a gun. The individual reportedly pointed the gun at officers who gave multiple commands to drop the weapon.

Two IMPD officers shot at the individual, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition. No officers were injured.

The two officers who fired their weapons were placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
