Marion County voters this November will see three uncontested races on the ballot: Marion County Assessor, Marion County Auditor, and Marion County Recorder.
Here's what each office is responsible for and information on all three incumbent candidates.
Marion County Assessor
The Marion County Assessor is the primary overseer of county property tax assessments. The office is responsible for reviewing, adjusting and assessing homeowners' property values in Marion County.
Joseph P. O'Connor has served as the Marion County Assessor for 16 years. He is a licensed real estate broker with over 25 years of property tax assessment experience and holds a Level III Assessor-Appraiser certification, the highest level certification available. According to his profile on indy.gov, O'Connor's priorities include providing greater transparency, increasing efficiency and expanding online access to public records.
Marion County Auditor
The Marion County Auditor is responsible for managing county finances, distributing tax money to the appropriate governmental departments, and paying city and county employees.
Myla Elridge has served as the Marion County Auditor for three years. According to her profile on indy.gov, Elridge has spent her time in office prioritizing efficiency, digitizing records and reducing human error. She shared an update on her Facebook late last year about the office's progress in those areas.
Marion County Recorder
The Marion County Recorder is responsible for maintaining a public database of property records. The office keeps track of property transactions between owners, as well as deeds, liens, mortgages, easements and certified survey maps.
Faith James Kimbrough has served as the Marion County Recorder for three years. According to her profile on indy.gov, Kimbrough has spent her time in office prioritizing efficiency, accessibility and transparency. Kimbrough said in updates on her Facebook she strives to educate the community through public events, panels and videos.
