The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra has cancelled performances through the end of May, cut its administrative staff in half and placed musicians and stagehands on unpaid furlough.
A press release from CEO James Johnson says the moves were made to protect the long-term viability of the organization.
“Given the far-reaching economic impact of COVID-19, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra is implementing measures to best protect its financial stability during this time,” Johnson says in the release. “These personnel actions are extraordinarily difficult, but necessary to manage the challenges faced by our organization.”
ISO plans to provide health care coverage thru the end of May but encourages employees to apply for unemployment relief thru the recently passed CARES Act.
