More students and adults can now enjoy the museum quality work many IPS students experienced in person this past year. Arts for Learning will share videos of its " third space" installation projects every Tuesday for the next four weeks.

A Lilly Endowment grant funded the project that allows a local artist to install a large scale piece of work in a school hallway or gymnasium for a week. Megan Bogard Gettelfinger is project manager for "third space."

She says the project has the potential “to sort of provoke these interactions between students and works of art to create this third space where it’s a place of possibility and flexibility and students really exercising their own agency and really potential.”

During the week teaching artists work with students to create art, dance and music inspired by the piece.

“So many times in schools it ends up being you know students are just sort of passively delivered information and this is quite the opposite," Gettelfinger says. "This is a real chance for them to explore on their own terms these larger ideas.”

Each legacy video documents the installation experience at the school. Gettelfinger says sharing the videos extends the educational impact of the program.

“You can really see the students spark , a light bulb that sort of goes off when they realize that wow, this artwork is here at my school, and it was made for me and my peers and my community,” she says.

Arts For Learning releases the first video May 12 noon on its Facebook page. Look for a new video every Tuesday through June 1.
