About the film:

“Stroke: Time is Brain” takes you on a journey through the history of stroke treatment. As recently as the 1990s, most doctors and researchers thought there might never be effective treatments for stroke. For centuries before that, victims of stroke were thought to have been "struck down" as if by lightning, by mysterious or evil forces. Now, due to the heroic efforts of scientists, researchers and doctors around the globe, stroke can be treated--but only if patients receive treatment quickly enough--hence the oft repeated phrase, "Time is brain."

Filmed in several countries, Stroke: Time is Brain introduces us to the researchers who discovered what causes strokes, scientists who discovered how compounds already in the body can be used to fight stroke, and doctors who are working on innovative ways to use everything from x-rays to robots to make almost miraculous recovery possible.

Today, even though stroke remains the number two cause of death around the world, now there is reason for hope.

Stroke: Time is Brain was produced in partnership with WFYI by Emmy award winning Executive Producer Steve Krahnke, Director Glenn Gephard, Editor Susanne Schwibsand, Lead Science Advisor Dr. Judd Jensen. Funding is provided by Genentech, Penumbra, Swedish/HCA and Neurologica.
